Tour Summary

This 7 day mountain bike touring tour visits the wild west coast of Tasmania in a big circuit from Launceston. Visit many interesting and varied places as you ride over to and up the west coast. Plenty of fun mountain biking along scenic roads and tracks while being fully supported and looked after. See wildlife, stand by waterfalls, gaze at mountains, enjoy short walks, stay in old mining towns and see the most amazing wilderness scenery ever.

Itinerary

Day 1 Launceston (A) to Lake St Clair (B)

Our adventure begins with a little drive through the country side then we head up via Poatina onto the Western Tiers, a huge high alpine plateau. Guests are dropped off for an enjoyable easy ride (25km) along this scenic road to our morning tea break. Keep riding (30km) along to the Great Lake then on to the fun dirt road to Little Pine Lagoon our lunch spot. After a nice lunch break and refuel enjoy a pleasant last ride (25km) along this pretty alpine area stopping at the sealed road were you will be bused to ur nights stay at Lake St Clair. Fantastic first day.

Day 2Lake St Clair (B) to Queenstown (C)

Enjoy a morning ride (30km) back out to the main road and along to the Franklin River Nature Reserve were we will be having a morning tea break and doing a short walk. It is back on the bikes for the ride (30km) to Nelson Falls were we will enjoying the sort walk and having lunch. After lunch we head by bus down into the old mining town of Queenstown were we will be spending the next 2 nights.

Day 3Queenstown (C) Day trip

After a couple of easy days now it’s time to spice things up a little. We all jump the bus, no packing up and drive to Rosebery. Today we are going to do the fun and fantastic “Montezuma Falls” mountain bike track. This awesome but more challenging trail (30km) is an old road that passes the magnificent falls and you need to cross via a spectacular wire bridge. Your guide will be waiting for you at the end with a well earn’t lunch break before heading back via bus to the motel for a couple of free hours to explore or relax.

Day 4Queenstown (C) to Corinna (D)

A fantastic varied day. First we bus it down to the tourist coastal town of Strahan were we will grab a “proper” coffee and guests will be given 1 hour to explore this small town by foot or bike. We then bus it to the isolated small mining town of Zeehan were guests are dropped off for a scenic ride (30km) out to the interesting Trail Harbour via Spray Tunnel trail. Great views of the mighty Southern ocean. Enjoy lunch and a stroll on the sand before we bus it back towards Corinna were guests are dropped off for a ride (12km) down to the ferry at Pieman river through beech forests. Dinner in restaurant.

Day 5 Corrina (D) Free Day

Corinna is a true wilderness experience and today is a day to enjoy it. Today you have choice of activities, 4 hour boat cruise, 2-4 hours self guided kayaking, short close bush walks or relax by the bar or cottages fireplace. No cycling today, this is to give your legs a rest for the final stages of the tour and to simply relax and enjoy this special place. Dinner in the restaurant.

Day 6Corrina (D) to Arthur River (E)

After a relaxing time it’s now time to get back into action. Today we bus you 20 km along a very scenic remote gravel road were guests ride (50km) along open button grass plains with sweeping views of the sea on one side and the Tarkine ancient forests on the other side. Lunch break is enjoyed once you hit the bitumen then its on the bus for a short drive to our nights stay at the small coastal town of Arthurs River. Optional afternoon ride (10km) out to Bluff Hill point near our cabins. BBQ dinner.

Day 7Arthur River (E) to Launceston (F)

Today we will be riding through the awesome and amazing Ancient tall Tarkine old growth forests. But before all that guests ride (48km) from camp to Kanunnah Bridge for morning tea break. We then bus it to and do a short walk through the tall ancient forests and enjoy lunch at this peaceful place. As we drive through it amazing place we drop you off for one last short ride (10km) through the forest to Trowutta Arch. Up to Smithton and then bus back to Launceston. Our last stop will be at a yummy ice cream place on the way home.
